LOCATION
The Port of Pusan is located on the southeast coast of the Republic of Korea at 35°05'N 129°06'E (Figure 2 and Figure 3). The Port of Pusan is approximately 22 nmi east of the smaller Port of Chinhae. It is about 250 nmi southeast of Seoul and 60 nmi south of Pohang.
Pusan Harbor, the Republic of Korea's principal deep water port, is divided by Yong Do Island into a North Harbor and South Harbor. Each Harbor is further divided into Inner and Outer Harbors.
Pusan New Port is being built around Gadeog Do to the west of the Port of Pusan and is scheduled to be completed by 2011. It is currently operational but is primarily used by commercial vessels. As of the Site Visit in May 2009, U.S. Navy, MSC, and Maritime Prepositioned ships do not use Pusan New Port.
