TOPOGRAPHY

Both La Paz and Pichilingue are in protected and enclosed bays with mountainous terrain to the south. The maximum height in the Sierra De La Laguna Mountains between Cabo San Lucas and La Paz is 6,857 ft (2,090 m). Topography does play a role on the impact of tropical cyclones since the storms normally approach from the south over the southern part of the Baha Peninsula before hitting La Paz and Pichilingue. There are no open ocean waves or wind waves and surge from tropical cyclones is normally minimal.
