MAZATLAN

TIDES AND CURRENTS

Outside the harbor entrance, a current normally sets to the west. During the summer the current is strongest at about 4 kt.

Mazatlan has a 3 ft (0.91 m) tidal range. It was reported that the current in the entrance channel sets south during the ebb and north during the flood. Vessels are recommended to enter the harbor at slack water if intending to use the turning basin (NIMA Sailing Directions Pub. 153). According to the pilots from the port visit in February 2000, the tidal current is normally 2 kt with a 3 kt maximum. Tides are not measured in the Port.
