CABO SAN LUCAS

TIDES AND CURRENTS

The tidal range is 4-6 ft (1.2-1.8 m). The current along the west coast of Baja California sets in the direction of the prevailing winds and attains rates of 0.5-3 kt. Locally, according to the Captain of the Port, the current outside Bahia San Lucas runs from west to east with refraction causing an east to southeast current of up to 2-3 kt within the Bay over the anchorage areas. This is especially noticeable during the winter months and is independent of the wind. Consequently, ships entering or departing from the Port can expect an easterly set up to 1-3 kt.

Tides are not measured in the Port.
