LOCATION
Acapulco (16°53'N 099°54'W) is located on the Pacific coast of Mexico within Acapulco Bay and positioned approximately 190 nmi south of Mexico City and approximately 450 nmi southeast of Puerto Vallarta. (Figures III-1 and III-2). The world famous and legendary Pearl of the Pacific is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Mexico. The main harbor facilities are situated within a small bay in the northwest part of Bahia de Santa Lucia. Acapulco is the second largest port in Mexico, after Cozumel, receiving an average of 140 ships every year.
