As of the Site Visit in November 2005, Port Ops and a Harbor Pilot stated that Anchorages A-1, A-10, A-11, A-12, and A-136 could be used as Hurricane Anchorages and had been used previously. It was also reported that the USNS YUKON was anchored in A11 for evasion of Tropical Storm Sarika and dragged anchor in 45 kt winds without sustaining any damage. This incident demonstrated the need for having engines lit off and having a second anchor underfoot.
Two Explosives Anchorages lie east of the Northeast Breakwater light structure and are designated A-12 and A-136. Ships may anchor as safe navigation permits in Yokosuka Ko, with the exception of the Explosives Anchorages. Note that A-10, A-11, A-12, and A-136 operate on a "First come, First serve" basis and must be authorized for use by the Japanese.
The quarantine anchorage lies north-northeast of the Northeast Breakwater. The quarantine station is situated at Nagahama, 2 nmi northwest of the anchorage. Vessels carrying dangerous cargo also anchor in the quarantine anchorage. Depths of anchorage are 32.8-98.4 ft (10-30 m).
A Prohibited Anchorage Area extends 1.5 nmi eastward and 2 nmi southward of Kannon Saki. Several Prohibited Anchorages are found in the vicinity of Yokohama Ko.
Numerous mooring buoy berths are in Yokosuka Ko and Nagaura but are not used by Naval vessels.
