  • 気仙沼港/宮城県気仙沼市 Kesennuma Fishery Port, northwest direction view on the Kesennuma Oshima ferry. Kesennuma is famous for thriving Ocean fishery, and there were large number of big fishing boat. Most of these were destroyed by the Tsunami and fire. Hundreds of boats were destroyed, and only 20-30 boats remained. For restoring these of lost, we need large amount of financial and human support.

Although this area is 2km from the sea,  the tsunami hit this area. We can see cherry blossoms along the right side of this river on April, if the damages by the tsunami are not so great in this area.

  • 大川/宮城県気仙沼市 Okawa River is the biggest river in Kesennuma City. We could usually watch Ospreys, one of the species of birds of prey,  at the estuary of the river. Although this area is 2km from the sea,  the tsunami hit this area. The bridge seen in upper part of this photo is a railway bridge, however the railway does not stand the prospect of recovery from the dameges by the earthquake and the tsunami.
