TIDES AND CURRENTS
Suva has a 6.2 ft (9.1 m) extreme tidal range. Tidal currents are negligible.
A tidal gauge is located at central King's Wharf adjacent to the Port Master Building.
In the vicinity of the Fiji Islands, currents in any direction may be experienced, but there is some preponderance of west over east currents particularly in the months from September to November. Most of the currents in any direction do not exceed 1 kt.
On a flood tide when south of Levu Passage, USS Leftwich in May 1997 experienced a set and drift from the northeast of 1 kt. Set and drift were negligible in the Harbor at that time. When departing on the ebb tide north of Levu Passage, USS Leftwich experienced a north-northeast set at 0.5 kt. On the ebb tide south of Levu Passage, USS Leftwich experienced a southerly set at 0.5 kt.
