EM&I; Group

Profile

EM&I is an industry leading global organisation, providing asset integrity services, inspection, corrosion management, baselines, integrity databases, cathodic protection and specialised repair and maintenance services to the oil, gas and energy industries. EM&I currently operates in Angola, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Equatorial Guinea, France, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, Vietnam, United Kingdom and the USA. EM&I have developed a suite of services around their concept of 'no drydock safely'. The holistic range of services offered helps their clients avoid having to send their floating production assets to drydock, presenting a very clear business case on the financial savings. EM&I also have an extensive track record of safely delivering complex repair and maintenance projects from the top of the flare to underwater structural replacements. Innovative solutions for client issues EM&I also has a strong focus on innovation and its developments are used globally, IGLOO habitats for hot work, MASS hull structural survey system and SNOOPY in-water inspection crawlers were all created to provide solutions to clients issues. TOPCAT and MAP are tailor made lightweight staging systems that can be installed by EM&I's rope access teams providing a stable working platform. Underwater inspection in lieu of drydocking alternative EM&I's UWILD Alternative (underwater inspection in lieu of drydocking) is a component of the EM&I no drydock concept providing a safer, time and cost effective method to gather enhanced inspection data, without the use of divers and reducing issues which arise with the use of ROVs only. EM&I's UWILD Alternative is unique and is classification society approved. Corrosion management systems EM&I's corrosion management systems include impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems which can be retrofitted to FPSOs while on station and in service. Many FPSOs use sacrificial anodes, these often need replacement over an extended field life through depletion or damage, carrying cost and safety penalties. An ICCP system on a FPSO is designed to prevent corrosion to the hull and associated structures throughout its lifetime. EM&I write corrosion management plans and undertake corrosion risk assessments. Corrosion under insulation inspection MOLE™, another EM&I innovation, uses specially designed sub miniature probes to assess moisture, temperature, coating condition and wall thickness in insulated piping and pressure vessels alleviating the need for costly and timely insulation removal when looking for corrosion under insulation. Non destructive testing and inspection EM&I provide a full range of conventional NDT, inspection and survey services. These include ultrasonics, radiography, LPI, MPI and Eddy Current. Specialist methods include digital radiography, backscatter computed tomography, ultrasonic phased array and time of flight diffraction all used as part of a non intrusive inspection strategy, including the detection of corrosion under insulation. Backscatter computed tomography EM&I has a partnership with Inversa Systems on a backscatter computed tomography (BCT) system called Insight™, which uses backscattered radiation to create an image of defects through insulation and multiple layered components, previously impossible to obtain within critical infrastructures, a game change in non-destructive and non-intrusive inspection. Risk based inspections EM&I's unique system of developing RBIs is much quicker and more cost effective for their clients. A criticality and risk assessment process that helps manage the integrity risk for pressure systems and structures on fixed and floating assets. The approach meets all the international standards and halves the time taken by conventional methods. Hull inspection techniques and strategy A joint industry project (JIP) entitled HITS (hull inspection techniques and strategy) is led by EM&I. This brings together operators, classification societies, regulators, equipment manufacturers and inspection contractors to define the objectives of hull integrity strategies and translate them into practical, effective and compliant methodologies. Safety and accreditation EM&I have an excellent health and safety record and have been awarded the RoSPA gold medal twice as a result of six consecutive gold awards for occupational health and safety. Other awards include the DTI Award for Safety Performance and the Seatrade Award for Innovation. EM&I are accredited to ISO 9001:2008 and inspection service standards are underpinned through EM&I's ISO 17020 accreditation, allowing EM&I to act as an independent inspection body. Integrated solutions EM&I was established more than 30 years ago and is an independent specialist supplier of asset integrity management, inspection, repair and maintenance services to large multinationals in the oil, gas and energy industries. EM&I's wider industrial experience from the marine, power generation, petrochemical, refinery, nuclear and aerospace industries brings effective, innovative solutions to each and every client. EM&I has two joint ventures, Bureau Veritas EM&I and EM&I Stantec, which provide expertise in a number of areas, including engineering, laboratory services, failure investigations, geophysical, geotechnical, environmental, vibration analysis, fabrication and maintenance. EM&I have a strategic alliance with Odebrecht Oil and Gas and with Unaoil Oil & Gas Services LDA. EM&I offer an integrated service package delivered safely to the highest standard giving clients cost effective solutions with a consistent worldwide service quality.
