Belmet is a diversified steel fabricator operating in the oil and gas, diamond mining, mineral processing and marine industries, in both South African and international markets.
Steel fabrication of offshore structures for the oil and gas industry
Belmet provides steel fabrication of offshore structures for the oil and gas industry for, among others, rigs, drill ships and subsea structures, as well as HP piping and general fabrication work. Belmet also handles general engineering, equipment rental and project management of projects for a growing base of international customers.
Belmet can offer general supplies and services to offshore vessels, DNV 2.7-1 and EN12079-certified handling baskets for the offshore industry, and a broad base of standard products for industry, such as containers, screw conveyors and trawl doors.
Heavy fabrication workshop for steel fabrication
Belmet's 2,000m² workshop has two dual 25T/5T overhead cranes and various welding stations, including a submerged arc-welding machine with column and boom, and manual and semi-automatic processes for CS, SS, Duplex and aluminium.
Pre-fabrication workshops for steel structures
Belmet has three 2,000m² pre-fabrication workshops for the fabrication of steel offshore structures. These workshops have 15 overhead cranes from 500kg to 5t capacity. Belmet's pre-fabrication workshops have manual, semi-automatic and automatic welding machines that cater for various processes, including FCAW, SMAW, GTAW, STT, GMAW, GSFCAW and SAW. Other machinery at the workshops includes:

Belmet also has a machine shop that is fully equipped with four lathes, two milling machines and three drill presses.
Fabrication yard and storage for steel structures
Belmet has a 10,000m² fabrication yard and storage area with a 20t SWL mobile crane, and 4t and 12t forklifts. It has a 60t hydraulic jack-up trailer and three 200m² mobile workshops. Belmet's five mobile offices with internet and email access are fully fitted out in a plug-and-play format.
Software for steel fabrication
Belmet uses a range of software in its offshore steel fabrication activities, including AutoShip, AutoPlate, Strand 7, Solid Edge, SigmaNest, Boilermaker’s Dream, CadKey, Keycreator and other up-to-date software applications.
Belmet's other services and capabilities include six four-star apartments for customers and visiting guests; vehicle availability for customers and visiting guests; and various delivery vehicles including an 8t truck with a HIAB crane.
ISO-certified steel fabricator of structures
The continued implementation of the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system is critical to the success of any project performed by Belmet Marine and the management system has been accredited by Bureau Veritas. Internal auditing on an ongoing basis ensures compliance with the management system and also allows for external audits to be completed without any non-conformances.
In compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act of 1993, the management of Belmet Marine’s health and safety program OHSAS 18001:2007 has been accredited by Bureau Veritas.
Plate-fitter / boilermaker and welder training courses
Belmet Marine hosts a MerSeta-accredited training centre for plate-fitters / boilermakers and welders. In September 2008 MerSeta recognised this training centre as a one of the top training facilities in the Western Cape. Since then, Belmet Marine has taken on candidates for learnerships and apprenticeships, as well as for the Accelerated Artisan Training Program (AATP). The latter allows candidates to graduate with a technical senior certificate that is formally endorsed by MerSeta.
Steel fabrication services in Namibia
Belmet has recently opened a fully fledged subsidiary company in Walvis Bay, Namibia, which was established to cater for the ever-increasing work capacity in Walvis Bay. A new 1,200m² fabrication facility will be completed by April 2010, which will have overhead crane capacity, welding and cutting capabilities – basically a smaller version of the Cape Town branch.
