SAFE has been manufacturing CNG compression and distribution equipment, as well as compression packages for the oil and gas industry, for more than 30 years. Founded in 1975, SAFE has become a global market leader and has delivered over 3,000 compressors worldwide.
GE high-speed reciprocating compressors
With the aim to expand its presence in the oil and gas market, SAFE entered a packaging agreement with GE Oil & Gas Nuovo Pignone in February 2007. Under the agreement, SAFE has the right to package, sell worldwide, and service GE’s high-speed reciprocating compressors (GE HSR compressors, formerly branded as Gemini). This has allowed SAFE to dramatically expand its proposal range (up to 5,000kW absorbed power per single compressor), and consequently cover oil and gas applications.
CNG compressors
SAFE has the widest compressor model portfolio available with a single manufacturer, covering from a few kW to 5,000kW absorbed power. The CNG compressor model portfolio (proprietary design and production, up to 400kW – 500kW) includes radial, V and W-shaped, horizontal balanced-opposed and hydraulic piston reciprocating compressors.
Oil and gas compressor packages
Small absorbed-power oil and gas applications are covered with SAFE proprietary design and production compressors; for high-power, heavy-duty applications, GE HSR compressors, designed according to API 11P, are used.
Package design and construction is carried out in our premises located in San Giovanni in Persiceto, close to Bologna, Italy. A brand new workshop of more than 26,000m² is now under construction to respond to the increasing demand of oil and gas packages.

HSR oil and gas compressors for natural gas applications
GE HSR compressors are the machine of choice for natural gas applications, ranging from field gas gathering to fuel gas boosting to gas storage. Such compressors also provide solutions for refinery, petrochemical, and offshore applications. Their unmatched flexibility ensures the right fit for every application now and for changing application conditions.
Oil and gas compressors can be offered in both electric motor and gas engine-driven configurations. Typical applications of SAFE oil and gas compression packages include:
