INTERCAT specializes in developing and manufacturing Fluid Cracking Catalyst (FCC) additives. These are used by petroleum refiners in the FCC unit which is more commonly known as the Cat Cracker. The Cat Cracker is the work horse of a refinery, where the conversion of crude oil to more valuable products such as gasoline, diesel fuel and feedstock for petrochemical processes take place. These additives are used in the Cat Cracker to enhance the performance of the base catalyst as well as to enhance the performance of the unit itself. INTERCAT estimates that it presently enjoys a market share of approximately 80 percent of the additives market. It is the only company in the business which specializes primarily in manufacturing and selling additives. Its competitors are principally manufacturers of catalysts and produce additives solely as a means to support the sale of their own catalyst.
