Fugro Structural Monitoring

Profile

Fugro GEOS Structural Monitoring Division offers a wide range of systems and services for the measurement and monitoring of platform, vessel, wellhead and riser response. Standard systems are available, but generally customised solutions are developed using appropriate sensors and instrumentation to suit individual project requirements. Structural monitoring services Structural monitoring is the measurement of environmental and structural loading on offshore structures. It can generate cost savings by providing verification and long-term integrity assurance, identifying design conservatism and extending operating life. Structural monitoring is also used to enhance safety on damaged platforms and demonstrate the effectiveness of repairs. Online monitoring (OLM) jacket monitoring system Fugro GEOS jacket monitoring systems provide a cost-effective means of monitoring the integrity of many jacket structures. Systems for design verification allow the performance of structures to be evaluated in service by comparing measured data with design. The Fugro GEOS online monitoring (OLM) system provides a cost-effective means of monitoring the integrity of many jacket structures, by measuring the acceleration response of platforms to wave motion. Significant damage is identified by a change in the natural frequencies exhibited by the platform. Applications: Low-redundancy structures Structures with low fatigue lives Structures operating beyond design life Critical members of high redundancy structures Structures operating in regions with less-well-developed inspection infrastructure Structures in seismically active areas Unmanned structures Wellhead and riser instrumentation systems (WARIS) The Fugro GEOS WARIS provides motion monitoring and strain measurement of the wellhead and blowout preventer (BOP) stack of a semi-submersible drilling rig. System benefits: Measurements assist in determining sustained fatigue and minimise downtime Build up a wellhead fatigue history Refine the best estimate of dynamic soil stiffness Allowable limits to ensure safe operation Eliminate unnecessary drilling downtime emanating from conservatism in the riser model Motion and strain data from the WARIS can be used to refine the fatigue model of the riser. This process usually results in a reduction of the estimated fatigue damage incurred by the wellhead. Records of wellhead motion provide evidence of the actual system behavior during operations. Fugro GEOS offers a full service from design to installation of the monitoring system, collating and analysing data and custom reporting. The division's data is quality controlled and presented to client requirements. They may typically include fatigue calculations, or spectral and modal analysis of structural responses. System options include: Upper and lower flex joint angle measurement Riser tension measurement at the riser adapter Lower marine riser package / BOP motion monitoring Inputs from available vessel systems Subsea instrumentation for deep water Fugro GEOS has developed a subsea data acquisition system specifically designed to meet the challenges of deepwater environments. DeepData is the core of a highly versatile data acquisition system, configured to meet most subsea data collection requirements. It is a modular logging system, which collects and analyses data from a variety of sensors up to a water depth of 3,000m. The system was designed around the need to measure the response of deepwater components such as production and drilling risers, sub-sea templates, anchors, moorings and foundations. Typical applications include: Risers: load, motion and vortex induced vibration (VIV) Wellheads: motion and fatigue Jackets: fatigue and integrity monitoring Pipelines: VIV and span assessment Riser management system Optima-RMS is a riser management system offered jointly by Wood Group Kenny and Fugro. The system uses outputs from existing vessel systems to predict the behaviour of the riser in the prevailing metocean conditions. It provides real-time guidance to operational personnel, allowing optimisation of drilling and workover operations. Key results are presented graphically in an intuitive display. Optima options include riser-angle and strain instruments, online and offline simulators (drift off and hang off) and VIV measurements. The system can be used on drilling risers and completion workover (C/WO) risers. Even a very small saving in vessel time produces a major return on investment in Optima-RMS. The system ensures: A maximised operating window Increased safety, with enhanced long-term riser integrity Reduced fatigue and wear on critical elements Improved understanding of riser behaviour Construction support Fugro GEOS offers a range of structural measurement services to support safe and efficient offshore construction operations. Construction support services include: Wave height measurements for accurate evaluation of the prevailing environment Vessel motion measurements to allow lifting and other construction operations to be carried out within safe limits but with minimum downtime Measurements of load transfer during jacking, module replacement etc Motion monitoring during heavy lifts, tows etc for safe operation and evaluation of loading Measurement of movement of and stresses in tendons, risers and other subsea equipment during and after installation
